Volkswagen EV Cloud Leak Exposed Driver Location Data

In December 2024, around 800,000 Volkswagen Group EVs (including Audi, Seat, Škoda) had sensitive location and personal data publicly exposed due to a misconfigured Amazon cloud server. The information included home/work addresses and precise vehicle locations. The leak also included the emails, addresses, and phone numbers of drivers in some cases.

What this reveals: Even well-established OEMs can fall victim to basic misconfigurations, risking widespread exposure of sensitive driver data.
